ENTRY FORMALITIES FOR FRANCE Congress participants of certain nationalities will have to obtain a visa to enter France. To do so, they must contact the French Consulate or Embassy in their country of residence in order to fulfil the required administrative procedures. Participants are strongly advised to apply for their visa well before their departure.

TRANSPORT By air Air France is the official carrier for the Paris Congress. Congress delegates can get preferential rates if they reserve tickets directly on the website www.airfrance-globalmeetings.com, with the help of the following Identification Code: 01166AF.

By train The French railways, SNCF, is also a Congress partner. Delegates can get a 20% discount on their tickets if they contact the UIA.
ARRIVAL There are two airports in Paris: Orly Airport (16 km from city centre) and Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport (27 km north of the city centre). The capital’s six major railway stations serve different destinations in France and Europe. Domestic links by the TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse or High Speed Train) are often more practical than airline connections. Eurostar connects Paris to London in 3 hours through the Channel. The TGV also goes to Brussels and Amsterdam. There is an Air France shuttle terminal just in front of the Méridien Montparnasse hotel. Air France shuttles provide regularly transfers to the airports.
Transfers from airports The taxi fare for a transfer from Paris’ airports to the city centre is about 70/75 €.

BANKS/FOREIGN EXCHANGE Banks are open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday. Some remain open on Saturday morning. International credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, shops, travel and car rental agencies, as well as in most other companies involved in tourism. Cash points can be found throughout the city.
CURRENCY The national currency is the Euro (€).
LANGUAGE French is the national language. English and Spanish are spoken in hotels, travel agencies, airports and major tourist sites.
ELECTRICITY The electric current is 220 V (50 Hz).
CLOTHING France has a continental climate, with a few variations depending on the season. The weather will be fairly changeable at the time of the congress. You are recommended to bring mid-season clothes and an umbrella.

TOURISM IN PARIS Paris is a city whose every street corner offers something to discover: monuments, architecture, historical avenues, parks and gardens… To visit Paris is to be immersed in its secular history – the remains of the ancient Rome’s Lutetia, huge medieval abbeys, gothic splendour, classical architecture, Napoleonic collections, Haussmanian perspectives, and so on. With a “Museum Pass”, you will be able to avoid the long queues in Paris’180 museums and monuments…
SHOPPING IN PARIS Department stores have become as much an essential part of a visit to Paris as the Eiffel Tower or the Notre- Dame Cathedral. Fashion, beauty, décor, leisure and great food are but mere glimpses of all the creations that await you. You will be able to admire the superb designer boutiques on the Avenue Montaigne or Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.
PARIS, THE CAPITAL OF GOOD TASTE Paris is known throughout the world as the gourmet capital. It brings together talent, know-how and the great quality of all French products.To enjoy the marvels of traditional French cuisine, a wide range of restaurants and cafés with as warm an ambience as it is varied are available. An ambassador of good taste, Parisian food comes in a thousand and one flavours: local country dishes, Mediterranean delicacies, recipes from the world over, a festival of delicatessen products and cheese, imaginative desserts… Restaurants, bars, brasseries, tearooms, icecream parlours, tiny restaurants with music and dancing and pubs – all invite gourmets from the world over to have themselves a treat! CONTINUING EDUCATION The UIA has obtained official approval from the Conseil National des Barreaux (CNB – National Bar Council, France) within the framework of legal continuing education. In this regard, 21 hours of training have been validated for the participants who are members of a French Bar Association.
