Welcome message from Paul NEMO, President of the Union Internationale des Avocats

The UIA annual congress has always been an important event in the lifetime of our association.

With reference to the importance of the themes that will be discussed, the 49^th congress taking place in FEZ, promises to be a great success.

Once again, the UIA will prove to be a unique and prospering meeting place for lawyers from all linguistic and cultural origins.

This idea will be reinforced by the significant number of participants and the capacity of the congress to make lawyers from all round the world discuss current issues, which relate directly to them, as well as beyond their profession, to deal with our modern society.

The code of ethics is a traditional founding concept of our profession, but is being discovered today by all sectors of activity (Judges, Companies, Sportsmen, etc...).

The digital world that is developing not only affects the citizen’s individual liberties but also individual relationships within social groups, whatever this relationship may be - professional, familial, local, religious, etc...- and relationships with the States or more generally the national or international public powers.

The city of FEZ will give us the opportunity to hold our working sessions in a beautiful setting, steeped in culture, customs and history.

Our colleagues from FEZ, whom I would especially like to thank, and all our Moroccan colleagues will be honoured to help you discover the charms and merits of the famous hospitality of their country.

Welcome to Fez, and the 49^th congress of the UIA

The Union Internationale des Avocats, which gathers lawyers from all around the world, will organise its annual Congress in Fez, in the spiritual capital of the kingdom. The city of Fez will welcome the participants to the Congress with joy and they will find this city an ideal place of work.

The main themes to be discussed are the following:

- Lawyers of the world: a single code of ethics?

- Digital world; challenges for the legal system

This event will be the occasion to discuss current legal issues.

The social programme will alternate open-air receptions giving you the possibility to admire the heritage of Fez so appreciated by visitors, and home hospitality dinners where you will appreciate the Moroccan warmth and welcome.

Programmes for the accompanying persons offers excursions in some of the most popular tourist sites. You will discover Moroccan handcraft and will have the opportunity to visit many historical places: Volubilis, the city of Meknès, the Fez medina and all its beauties..

Our congress will take place under the high patronage of King Mohamed VI, who always paid close attention to the cultural and legal sector and who honoured our profession by wearing our robe in public.
