Dear colleagues around the world:
A feast for the senses, a feast for the mind. That is what is waiting for us in Salvador. First, the senses: the rich natural beauty of this jewel on the Atlantic coast is apparent when you fly in over the rolling, forested hills leading down to sandy beaches where the endless surf sketches white arcs in the sparkling blue sea. The same surf crashes spectacularly onto the rocks outside the entrance to our congress hotel.
Musical instruments unknown elsewhere imbue the air with complex Latin rhythms derived from the peoples of three continents, mixing in the Salvadoran melting pot. Meals bring a whiff of unidentifiable spices, tantalizing the nose and tastebuds. And the colors! Everywhere, the buildings are washed with greens, reds, ochres, oranges and blues from a splendidly unique palette that only Salvadorans know, a feast for the eyes.
As if that were not enough to bring you here, our Main Themes and Commission programs are an extraordinary professional attraction. The practical approach of our Coordinators assures that you will be enriched by our programs on the Environment and Sustainable Development, Entering Foreign Markets and Basic Human Rights. Each of these Main Themes offers something for every lawyer. Yet there is always the option to attend your favorite Commission session, where you can dive into the nuances of your field with like-minded colleagues and friends from around the world.
I extend the warmest of invitations to you to come and join us in this very special place for a very special time together. If you choose to bring your spouse or family, there is no end to the interesting activities available: programs on dance, cooking, music; fascinating tours; swimming, diving, and sunning; shopping for unique artisanal objets d'art; absorbing the colonial architecture magnificently preserved in the heart of the old city. Relaxing at an outdoor café in the warm, tropical breezes. There is something for everyone in Salvador.
My friend Reginaldo de Castro, our Congress President, and I each promise our best efforts to bring you an unforgettable experience in this magic place called Salvador. Please come and join us.
Sincerely,
Delos N. LUTTON President of the UIA

Today’s contemporary world and its increasingly complex challenges make it necessary for lawyers to constantly update and strengthen their skills. The extensive technological progress achieved against an irreversible background of globalisation make a constant exchange of information between professionals the world over indispensable.
All these changes lead to the emergence of new languages and the initiation of new concepts that gradually replace the ones to which we are accustomed. In this context, it is important to participate in national or international conferences in order to get information about new trends and practices, so as to remain competitive on the market.
Therein lies the special importance of the 50th Congress of the International Association of Lawyers (UIA), which will take place in Salvador, Brazil, this year. It offers a great opportunity – one that should not be missed – to update our knowledge and widen our horizons, but also to spend unforgettable moments in a culturally fascinating city and to get to know colleagues from all over the world.
Five days of intense work are waiting for us, punctuated by breaks during which we will be able to enjoy the charms of Salvador.
I look forward to welcoming you soon in Salvador and shall be waiting for you in Salvador!
Reginaldo Oscar DE CASTRO President of the 50th congress of the UIA
